Message-ID: Hi there, It's been about 5 months since the last post. Are there any projects going on that you can share? I know Manuel use to send these out periodically. It's nice to hear what's going on out there. I'm finishing up Pacman4K...yes again :-) This is for AA. Kurt Howe was able to get more free bytes out of my original so there are going to be some minor changes for the AA version. I've scrapped plans of doing a larger ROM version of this. I'm just not interested in doing a game over 4K. After that I think I'll get back into my disassembly projects again as I get time. It feels good to see others using my disassemblies. I thought I was the only one that looked at these. Most recently I've seen people using my Berzerk and E.T. work to answer questions about game play and all. Kind of nice. I guess I'll start with my old WIP work. Anyone else? My higher priority projects at the moment are hardware - I'm building a 256-in-1 4k multicart with dipswitch control, and I'm designing a standalone arcade panel for the VCS (joystick in center, paddles on the edges). If my interest holds out on the arcade stick I might produce a bunch for resale. Good to hear about your continued Pacman4k efforts, it's one of my favorite homebrews and I am excited to see the "final" final product : ) -Greg On Tue, Dec 1, 2009 at 10:25 PM, Dennis Debro wrote: > Hi there, > > It's been about 5 months since the last post. From smidgey at aapt.net.au Thu Dec 10 09:53:41 2009 From: smidgey at aapt.net.au (Leigh Ridgway) Date: Fri, 11 Dec 2009 01:53:41 +1000 Subject: [stella] Whence the Dig? Message-ID: <9793CBDF68ED49D2BD4ED20EB391300D@smidgepc> G'Day, I've just in the last week or so downloaded your mailing list archives in order to grep them and find out information about homebrew ROM images that I am hunting. I must say that reading the posts and learning about peoples' dev cycles and kernel heartaches and the like has really tweaked my interest in 2600 homebrew development (being a relatively young fellow I cut my teeth on a Tandy COCO-2, and my first taste of assembly was on the 286). But the reason that I am writing is in regards to the reply post in thread 'Whence the Dig?' made by Rob on the first of August. In my hunt for ROMS I have been feverishly piecing together the shape of the homebrew community from about 1998 through to present day, and with the help of the Stella list archives, Google, and archive.org's Wayback Machine I have really learned quite a lot. One of the files I was looking for was the revised version of the Crazy Valet binary which I picked up at http://web.archive.org/web/20011123175608/home.tampabay.rr.com/bprescot/crazyvalet/download.htm, but a good portion of the others only exist now in the Dig as far as I can tell. I have tried using Wayback to grab the binaries from the Dig at its original home, but they were not saved by the web spider in this instance. Then I tries the 2nd edition (at homebrewgames.net I believe), but the domain has since been parked and the robots.txt that is now in place prevents the Internet Archive from presenting results for that domain as a matter of policy. So what I am asking, if I may, is for access to those backup files in order to hopefully find those missing ROMS and help get them back out there. In return, I don't have a whole lot to offer. I don't have access to any web space, and I won't have a lot of time next year. What I CAN offer though is to help tidy up those files and prepare them for publishing, as I have fairly good skills at data mining and automation, and a little time on my hands whilst on leave this christmas. I politely urge you to at least consider my request, and I apologize if I have breached the etiquette of this list in any way. Cheers, Leigh 'Smidge' Ridgway. Message-ID: <824D9C4C888E401289AA3A5553EB2938@smidgepc> A correction to my last "Then I tries the 2nd edition (at homebrewgames.net I believe)" I recall it in fact being on neonghost.com, and also I wasn't using the present tense of the word 'try' to pass off some sort of familiarly-toned drawl ("See then I tries the 2nd edition see, but old Mr. Buttersworth, well he..."), it's a typo :-( Cheers Again, Smidge.
